Leading Hand - Commercial Construction

About the role

A commercial builder is looking for a carpenter or leading hand to join its team in commercial construction, with a clear path of long-term development toward a Site Manager role. The client offers strong mentorship from experienced site leadership and internal training, and the projects are spread across the Melbourne metropolitan area.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Site Manager with daily site operations and trade coordination
• Take a hands-on approach to site tasks and resolve day-to-day issues
• Help organise works, materials and deliveries to keep progress on track
• Monitor workmanship and help with quality inspections and defect management
• Support site safety, housekeeping and compliance requirements
• Build understanding of construction sequencing, programming and site supervision

Required profile

• Carpentry trade background with strong practical construction knowledge
• Either a carpenter ready to take on more responsibility or an existing Leading Hand seeking commercial exposure
• Long-term ambition to progress into a Site Manager role
• Proactive, reliable and willing to learn from experienced site teams
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with subcontractors
• Willingness to travel across the entire Melbourne metropolitan area
