Lead Cyber Security Specialist – EL1 (Canberra)

About the role

This position is for a Lead Cyber Security Specialist (EL1 level) supporting a Federal Government department in Canberra. The role focuses on identifying, analysing and prioritising cyber‑security vulnerabilities across systems, applications and development pipelines, and delivering risk‑based advice to senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, assess and prioritise cyber‑vulnerabilities (CVEs) across complex enterprise environments.
• Conduct risk‑based vulnerability assessments and provide actionable security recommendations.
• Operate Tenable on‑premises platforms for scanning, validation and management of vulnerabilities.
• Use Splunk for log analysis, event correlation and cyber‑security investigations.
• Engage with stakeholders to translate technical findings into clear, decision‑ready advice.
• Support secure development pipelines, including CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cyber‑vulnerability management within large, regulated or government environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for senior stakeholder engagement.
• Experience working in Australian Government or similarly highly regulated sectors.
• Ability to work onsite in Canberra for the contract duration.
