Lead Cloud Migration Architect

About the role

The Lead Cloud Migration Architect will own the technical outcome of a wave‑based application migration and modernization programme across Azure and AWS. Working on‑site at the customer site in Canberra, you will align migration approaches, tooling and AI usage with business, security and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Define and govern the migration strategy, including the 7Rs, for large‑scale applications moving to Azure and AWS.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of architects covering assessment, strategy, design and AI‑assisted tooling.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Delivery Lead and Security Lead to ensure technical and security alignment.
• Provide input to the customer’s FinOps function on cost optimisation and cloud financial management.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as an enterprise or lead architect on complex, large‑scale migration programmes to Azure and AWS.
• Proven track record delivering architecture in high‑security, regulated environments such as government.
• Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills, able to present to Architecture Review Boards and security functions.

Required skills

• Deep working knowledge of Azure and AWS target‑state architecture patterns and migration frameworks.
• Broad expertise across application, infrastructure, data, security and business architecture.
• Understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimisation.
• Experience with AI‑assisted migration tools and associated governance.
• Enterprise architecture certification (e.g., TOGAF) and NV1 security clearance.
