Lawyer – Youth Justice Services

About the role
Legal Aid Queensland is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its Youth Justice Services team. You will represent clients in criminal matters, provide duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children’s Courts, and support the community with high‑quality legal advice.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, represent and advocate for clients in criminal law matters across all court levels.
- Provide duty lawyer services in Magistrates and Children’s Courts, including attending call‑overs and mentions.
- Deliver clear legal information and advice to clients and the public.
- Support team members with legal queries and contribute to policy development and law reform initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience independently preparing and presenting criminal law cases.
- Strong knowledge of relevant practice, procedure and ethical standards.
- Excellent communication skills, able to engage with clients with complex needs using trauma‑informed practice.
- Self‑management ability and willingness to work collaboratively under supervision.
Required skills
- Knowledge of criminal law and court processes.
- Ability to interpret and apply legal policy and reform initiatives.
