About the role

Crown Law is seeking a qualified lawyer to join its Native Title and Resources Team. You will provide specialist legal advice and representation on native title, cultural heritage, and resources matters for the Queensland government.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise on the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) for public infrastructure, ILUAs, mining and resources projects.
  • Interpret and apply the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld), Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) and the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld).
  • Draft, negotiate and manage cultural heritage agreements and management plans.
  • Represent the State in Federal Court, National Native Title Tribunal and Land Court proceedings, including determinations, compensation claims and appeals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and effective outcomes.

Required profile

  • Qualified lawyer with experience in native title, cultural heritage or resources law.
  • Strong understanding of relevant Queensland legislation and federal native title processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage complex, sensitive matters and work independently.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
  • Familiarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Acts (Qld).
  • Experience with court and tribunal advocacy.
