Lawyer – Litigation Unit (Environmental Law)

About the role

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic Lawyer to join our Litigation Unit located in the Brisbane CBD. The team handles assessment, enforcement and compliance litigation for the department and other government agencies, including prosecutions and appeals in environmental and planning matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage litigation matters before the Planning and Environment Court, Land Court and other tribunals.
• Provide strategic advice on regulatory actions and enforcement strategies.
• Prepare and present cases involving environmental, planning, criminal and statutory interpretation issues.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate and resolve complex legal disputes.

Required profile

• Law degree with admission to the Supreme Court of Queensland or eligibility for immediate admission.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure in a team environment and contribute positively to team culture.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Environmental Law, Planning Law, Criminal Law and statutory interpretation.
• Understanding of litigation procedures and relevant legislation administered by the department.
• Ability to quickly acquire specialised legal knowledge as needed.
