Landfill Operator

About the role

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is seeking a motivated Landfill Operator to join its Kununurra team. The role involves ensuring efficient operation of the disposal site, compliance with regulations, and delivering high‑quality customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily pre‑operational checks, maintain plant/machinery and report faults.
• Compact waste, operate water and hook‑lift trucks, and manage storm‑water swales, retention ponds and internal roads.
• Provide front‑line customer service to residents, contractors and businesses, including gate‑keeping duties, weighbridge operation and cash/EFTPOS processing.
• Maintain accurate waste registers, inspect vehicles for hazardous items and ensure compliance with licence requirements.
• Undertake general housekeeping, participate in toolbox and team meetings, and seek performance improvements.

Required profile

• Current unrestricted WA Manual “MR” or “HR” Class Driver’s Licence.
• Ability to work outdoors in East Kimberley conditions and safely operate relevant equipment.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety and customer service.

Required skills

• Operation of boom gates, weighbridges and heavy‑duty trucks.
• Experience with waste handling, including checking loads for asbestos, oil, tyres, batteries and chemicals.
