Laboratory Assistant – Pathology Specimen Reception

About the role

Healius, through its Western Diagnostic Pathology brand, is hiring a Laboratory Assistant in Darwin. The role covers accurate and efficient processing of pathology specimens at specimen reception, including registration, handling and dispatch so that turnaround times are maintained and reliable diagnostic results are delivered. It is a permanent full-time position, Monday to Saturday, with shifts between 7am and 9pm, and offers structured training and a supportive team.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, check and process specimens with a high level of accuracy
• Complete data entry and register specimens in laboratory systems
• Prepare and dispatch specimens to core laboratories within required timeframes
• Manage enquiries by phone and shared mailboxes, escalating where required
• Coordinate urgent specimen handling and courier collections
• Maintain laboratory records, storage and filing processes
• Take part in routine quality activities and follow laboratory procedures
• Comply with WHS policies and keep a safe working environment

Required profile

• Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential; a qualification in pathology or laboratory skills is also desirable but not essential
• Experience in healthcare, data entry or roles requiring high accuracy and attention to detail is highly regarded
• Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
• Effective communication, teamwork and comfort in busy environments
