Kitchen Coordinator

About the role

The Kitchen Coordinator at Burdekin Flexible School coordinates nutritious, safe and high-quality food services for Young People, supporting their health, wellbeing and engagement in education. The role is continuing and part time, starting in November 2026, and involves working with campus staff to deliver a welcoming, inclusive and trauma-informed food service.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, administer and maintain kitchen services, including menu planning, food preparation and food safety compliance
• Manage stock control, budget and community food partnerships
• Coordinate food-related learning opportunities for Young People
• Occasionally perform basic campus utility tasks
• Drive school transport vehicles when required to transport young people

Required profile

• Organised, flexible and able to work independently within a multidisciplinary team
• Previous hospitality experience and/or relevant chef or cook qualifications are highly desirable
• Experience preparing healthy meals and understanding safe food handling, storage and service
• Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
• Current driver's licence and willingness to drive school transport

Required skills

• Relevant qualification in commercial cookery, hospitality or food services, or equivalent experience
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate or ability to obtain one, and a current First Aid certificate or ability to obtain one
• Experience in menu planning, stock control, purchasing, budget and inventory management
• Highly desirable: experience in a school, community, youth services or not-for-profit setting, knowledge of nutrition, and experience with food donation programs or community partnerships
