Java Software Engineer – Backend Services (Melbourne)

About the role

Join a leading Australian consumer‑tech company as a Java Software Engineer. You will work within a product technology team building and evolving high‑traffic backend services that serve millions of users daily.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and platforms using Java and Spring Boot.
• Implement event‑driven, micro‑service architectures and integrate messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices (Docker, Jenkins, Ansible).
• Collaborate with senior engineers on technical design challenges and help manage technical debt.
• Support the team in identifying and mitigating system risk.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices and event‑driven architecture.
• Experience with messaging/streaming tools (e.g., Kafka).
• Working knowledge of AWS cloud services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as Docker, Jenkins or Ansible.
