Infection Prevention and Control Lead - Shoalhaven

About the role

IRT Group, a community-owned provider of aged care and home care, is looking for an Infection Prevention and Control Lead for the Shoalhaven region. You will provide clinical expertise and mentoring to care teams and lead infection prevention and control activities for a team of Aged Care Employees. This is a fixed-term contract until 9 March 2027, working two days a week and supporting the Culburra and St Georges Basin areas.

Key responsibilities

• Review current practices regularly and make recommendations for improvement
• Assess, promote and help develop infection prevention and control policies, procedures and outbreak management plans
• Take part in compliance audits and report on findings
• Contribute to IPC training programs and give expert advice on infection control and disease management in aged care centres
• Manage and respond to infection-related matters
• Work with the Clinical Nurse Educator to promote high standards of education and competency in infection control
• Share IPC information with residents and their families
• Help coordinate vaccination programs for residents and employees
• Coordinate outbreak management, including meetings, internal and external line listing and post-outbreak debriefs

Required profile

• AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse, preferably with substantial post-basic nursing experience
• Completed or enrolled in a suitable IPC training course
• Completed ICC training COVID-19 infection control online modules, including Infection Control Training, Immunisation certificate and all aged care modules
• Sound understanding of IPC principles and outbreak management
• Ability to interpret Infection Control and Waste Management Standards and develop or implement related policies and procedures
