HR and Payroll Coordinator

About the role

Barbell Foods, a national Australian meat snack brand, is looking for an experienced HR and Payroll Coordinator to join its small but growing People team in Hume. This is a hands-on, varied role combining payroll with onboarding, HR administration, recruitment and HRIS work. Within three months you will run payroll end to end for a national brand across three Modern Awards.

Key responsibilities

• Run payroll end to end for three Modern Awards, covering full-time, part-time and casual staff, including timesheet reviews, pay calculations, leave entitlements and payroll checks
• Prepare and lodge STP lodgements, manage termination payments, leave calculations and year-end reconciliations
• Apply knowledge of Modern Awards, research clauses and escalate complex matters
• Maintain payroll information and assist with system updates
• Prepare employment contracts, variations, salary letters and other HR correspondence
• Maintain employee records in Employment Hero, process employee changes and prepare people reports
• Coordinate new starters, inductions, system access, equipment and exits; coordinate job ads, recruitment administration and offer documentation
• Answer routine HR and payroll enquiries and advise on awards and changes
• Improve payroll and HR processes, and assist with return-to-work administration and employee events

Required profile

• At least two years of hands-on payroll experience, with a sound understanding of pay processing, employee entitlements and Award compliance
• Confidence working with payroll data and investigating discrepancies
• Organised, practical and able to take ownership
• Desirable: experience with Employment Hero or a comparable system, HR administration experience, and a Certificate IV in Human Resources or Payroll
