Head Veterinary Nurse - GP + Urgent Care

About the role

Greencross Vets GP + Urgent Care Noosa is looking for an experienced Head Veterinary Nurse for a full-time leadership role. The clinic is a purpose-built hospital bridging general practice and emergency, offering same-day care for pets needing prompt assessment, investigation, treatment or stabilisation. The Head Nurse balances hands-on nursing with leadership, mentoring and team coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Clinical leadership: lead by example on the hospital floor, coordinate daily workflow and patient care, assist with triage and urgent assessments, maintain clinical standards and ensure protocols are followed
• Team leadership: mentor and coach nurses, support training and onboarding, help with rostering, work with the Hospital Manager and Veterinary Leadership Team, and identify ways to improve efficiency and patient outcomes
• Clinical nursing: anaesthetic monitoring, hospital and inpatient care, diagnostic sample collection and processing, administering medications and treatments, assisting with procedures and diagnostics, client communication and education, and keeping the hospital clean and organised

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a Veterinary Technologist degree
• Minimum 3+ years of veterinary nursing experience
• Previous senior nurse, head nurse, team leader or mentoring experience
• Experience in emergency, urgent care, referral or busy GP environments highly regarded
• Confidence with triage and patient assessment, strong organisational and prioritisation skills
• Collaborative leadership style, calm under pressure, and a commitment to continuous improvement
