Head of Procurement – Mining & Resources

About the role

Our client, a leading mining and resources organisation in Brisbane, is seeking a strategic Head of Procurement to lead the end‑to‑end procurement function. Reporting to senior leadership, you will shape procurement strategy, drive cost efficiencies and ensure reliable supply of critical goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously refine the procurement strategy to align with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
• Lead, mentor and manage the procurement team, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Oversee strategic sourcing, including supplier identification, evaluation, negotiation and relationship management for high‑value contracts.
• Drive cost‑saving initiatives and identify process‑improvement opportunities across the procure‑to‑pay lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations and ethical standards.
• Manage supply‑chain risk through effective mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with Operations, Finance and Engineering to align procurement with internal requirements.
• Prepare and present detailed performance reports, metrics and market trends to executive leadership.

Required profile

• Proven senior procurement leadership experience (Head of Procurement or Senior Procurement Manager).
• Extensive experience in the mining, resources or related heavy‑industry sector.
• Demonstrated expertise in strategic sourcing, complex contract negotiation and supplier relationship management.
• Strong commercial acumen with analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional certification such as CIPS is highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder‑management skills.
