Head of Curatorial and Collections

About the role

Bundanon, an art museum in the Shoalhaven region of NSW, is seeking a Head of Curatorial and Collections to join its Senior Leadership Team and report to the CEO. The role leads the strategic and operational direction of the artistic program, overseeing the Curatorial team and integrating Exhibitions, Touring Exhibitions, Collections and the Artists in Residence program. It also covers the collection, archive and heritage environments, with compliance to national museum standards and cultural protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Execute strategy with the Executive Team, develop long-term plans and oversee budgets for curatorial, collections, touring and residency programs
• Lead the curatorial team and deliver exhibitions of contemporary and historical art, including publications, and represent Bundanon nationally
• Manage the collection, archives and heritage sites, including documentation, cataloguing, research, acquisition and loan programs
• Oversee the Artists in Residence program, including selection, partnerships and the AIR complex at the Homestead
• Deliver Indigenous engagement and work with Live Programs and Learning Programs
• Lead, develop and evaluate the team, including induction, performance management and WHS

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in art history, curatorship, museum studies or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Extensive curatorial experience and substantial collections management experience (acquisitions, conservation, loans)
• Demonstrated strategic and team leadership, including budget management and staff development
• Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and communities
• Desirable: experience overseeing artist residency programs and heritage collections

What we offer

• Annual salary of $178,080 including superannuation, or $159,000 plus 12% super
• Award-free position
• Full-time, 5 days a week (38 hours), reporting to the CEO with 4 direct reports
