Graduate Lawyer – 12-Month Fixed-Term Program in Sydney

About the role

Avant Law, Australia’s leading specialist medico‑legal firm, is launching a 12‑month Graduate Lawyer program in Sydney. The role combines an 18‑week Practical Legal Training (PLT) with the College of Law and four three‑month rotations across civil litigation, professional conduct, workplace law and commercial advisory, offering real responsibility and professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, timely legal advice and services for claims against Avant members and commercial clients.
• Assist senior lawyers with legal research, case preparation and analysis.
• Draft legal documents such as briefs, memos, court filings and contracts.
• Review and summarise case files and relevant legal materials.
• Attend client meetings, court hearings and other legal proceedings as required.
• Provide administrative support, including case file management and client coordination.
• Stay informed of legal developments and changes in relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Completed or final semester of a law degree at an Australian university, with graduation by the end of 2026.
• Eligibility to commence PLT in February 2027 and subsequent admission as a solicitor.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong prioritisation, time‑management and self‑management abilities.
• Willingness to receive feedback and continuously learn.
• Collaborative mindset that supports a positive team culture.
• High computer literacy and ability to work in an electronic document‑management environment.
• Interest in the medico‑legal/health‑law sector is preferred.
