GP / GP VMO – George Town Medical Centre

About the role

George Town Medical Centre, a well-established rural (MM5) general practice at the mouth of the Tamar River about 45 minutes from Launceston, is seeking dedicated GPs for full-time and part-time positions. The practice sits next to the 15-bed George Town District Hospital, where its GPs provide VMO services, and also provides emergency care to the community because the hospital has no emergency department. It is part of the Health Hub Group, a GP-led Tasmanian primary care group.

Key responsibilities

• Broad-scope general practice for patients of all ages, including chronic disease management and preventive care
• Emergency care for the George Town community, supported by the nursing team
• VMO services to the George Town District Hospital
• Procedural work including fracture management, skin and minor surgery and vasectomies, supported by onsite GP radiology and point-of-care ultrasound
• Participation in the practice on-call / emergency roster (registrars are included)

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
• Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Fellowship (FRACGP and/or FACRRM) is strongly welcomed but not essential; registrars, non-VR doctors and those working towards Fellowship are encouraged to apply
• Experience in general practice; emergency, procedural or rural experience is highly regarded

What we offer

• Estimated gross billings of $400,000-$600,000+ per annum for a full-time equivalent position

• Onsite diagnostics (GP radiology and point-of-care ultrasound) and a large nursing team of three to four nurses each day
• Weekly clinical meetings and tutorials with experienced supervisors, including a former RACGP examiner
