GIS Foundation Specialist (Level 2 – Practitioner)

About the role

The Australian Geospatial‑Intelligence Organisation (AGO) seeks a GIS Foundation Specialist (Level 2 – Practitioner) on a 12‑month contract to support the production, maintenance and quality assurance of foundation geospatial data and cartographic outputs for Defence.

Key responsibilities

• Perform geospatial data production, capture and maintenance in line with Defence standards.
• Conduct quality assurance and validation of spatial data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Produce cartographic products and geospatial outputs to defined specifications.
• Support the maintenance and management of Foundation Geospatial datasets within enterprise systems.
• Follow established workflows, resolve data quality issues and contribute to documentation.

Required profile

• Relevant vocational or tertiary qualification in geospatial science, GIS or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Practical experience in GIS data production, capture, editing and quality assurance.
• Ability to work under general direction, follow established procedures and meet quality timelines.
• Awareness of Defence, intelligence or government environments and ability to obtain security clearance (desirable).

Required skills

• Proficiency with GIS tools such as ArcGIS and/or SOCET GXP.
• Experience working with structured data schemas and specifications.
• Knowledge of geospatial data quality assurance and validation processes.
