General Operator - Street Cleansing

About the role

Merri-bek City Council is recruiting a General Operator for a full-time permanent position based on 35 hours per week, with fortnightly pay. The operator works according to rosters and work practices, with starting times varying from 3:30 am to 7:30 am, and delivers the Council's street cleansing services across the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• General cleaning of streets, car parks, rights of way, parks and reserves
• Removal of dumped rubbish, litter, dead animals and sharps such as syringes
• Sweeping shopping and activity centres, residential streets, bus shelters and footpaths by mechanical and manual means, and litter bin collection
• Complete training in street sweepers, footpath sweepers, combo trucks, pits and drain cleaning, plus other identified training
• Take part in regular overtime to support Saturday and Sunday morning programs

Required profile

• Current Victorian driver's licence with Medium Rigid endorsement
• Demonstrated experience driving trucks in built-up areas and operating small plant and equipment
• Demonstrated experience in street cleansing and/or related maintenance programs
• Working with Children check required
