General Manager - HVAC & Air Conditioning

About the role

A heating, cooling and electrical business is launching its first interstate branch in Adelaide and needs a General Manager to build a profitable operation from the ground up. The model starts lean: a home-based manager, a trusted network of subcontractors and supplies delivered to site, with no warehouse or office initially. The role reports directly to the Managing Director.

Key responsibilities

• Create and deliver the Adelaide launch plan, budget and sales pipeline
• Win new business and grow repeat and maintenance work
• Build relationships with builders, developers, commercial clients and property managers
• Assess sites, read drawings and price jobs accurately
• Recruit and manage licensed subcontractors to a high standard
• Oversee projects from quote through to handover and after-sales support
• Own branch revenue, margins, cash collection and compliance, with weekly reporting to head office

Required profile

• HVAC project, operations, service or branch management experience
• Proven track record of winning work and negotiating
• Experience managing subcontractors, pricing jobs and managing margins
• Ability to read drawings and specifications
• Understanding of commissioning and fault-finding
• Confidence working independently without an office or local team
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel
• Desirable: refrigeration and air-conditioning trade qualification, relevant licences and refrigerant handling credentials, existing SA industry connections, branch establishment experience, residential and commercial HVAC exposure, maintenance agreements, branch budget or P&L responsibility

What we offer

• On-target earnings of up to $200,000: $125,000 base salary, superannuation, $15,000 vehicle allowance and a performance bonus up to $45,000
