General Counsel & Company Secretary

About the role

Sonder is seeking a General Counsel and Company Secretary to lead its legal function at a critical growth stage. Reporting to the CFO, you will manage an internal legal team, coordinate external counsel, and serve as the Board’s secretary.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of two Legal Counsel.
• Oversee all external counsel relationships.
• Act as Company Secretary: organise Board meetings, manage governance and investor relations.
• Design and implement AI‑driven legal and secretarial workflows.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product and Customer Success to streamline contracting processes.
• Support corporate transactions including fundraising, M&A and multi‑jurisdictional equity plans.

Required profile

• 10+ years post‑qualification experience, with significant in‑house exposure in a fast‑growth environment.
• Corporate and commercial law expertise covering SaaS, employment, data privacy, technology and IP.
• Current unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
• LLB, JD or equivalent qualification.
• Proven track record of using AI and automation to reduce legal cycle times.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance risk with business outcomes.
• Experience managing an in‑house team and coordinating external counsel.
