Full Time Orthoptist / Optometrist Position

About the role
The Orthoptist/Optometrist will join Port Macquarie Eye Centre’s multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality eye care across a range of ophthalmic specialties. You will work closely with ophthalmologists and other clinicians to provide comprehensive pre‑ and post‑operative assessments, refraction, strabismus and glaucoma reviews, as well as paediatric eye examinations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide orthoptic and optometric support to doctors during clinics.
- Conduct independent patient consultations covering refraction, strabismus, glaucoma, paediatric assessment and emergency referrals.
- Perform and document diagnostic tests such as pachymetry, keratometry, corneal topography, tonometry, OCT, retinal photography and IOL calculations.
- Maintain accurate patient histories and records in the practice software.
- Assist in triaging referrals and preparing patients for consultations.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, nurses, clinical assistants and administrative staff across all specialties.
Required profile
- Qualified Orthoptist or Optometrist with experience in ophthalmic clinical settings.
- Ability to manage pre‑ and post‑operative eye care, refraction, strabismus and glaucoma assessments.
- Strong documentation skills and proficiency with electronic patient record systems.
- Team‑oriented mindset with excellent communication with multidisciplinary staff.
Required skills
- Pachymetry, keratometry and corneal topography
- Goldmann applanation tonometry and other tonometry methods
- Auto and subjective refraction, vertometry
- Visual acuity and visual field testing
- Pupil reaction assessment and intraocular pressure checks
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and anterior segment OCT
- Retinal and widefield photography
- Intraocular lens (IOL) measurements and calculations
- Specialty testing for glaucoma and IOP reviews
