Full-Time Floating Early Learning Centre Cook

About the role

The Y Canberra Region is seeking a reliable Full‑Time Floating Cook to provide kitchen coverage across its Early Learning Centre (ELC) sites in Belconnen, Gungahlin, Holt, Holder, Jamison, Kambah and Strathnairn. You will work in a variety of kitchen environments, preparing nutritious meals for children while upholding the highest food safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook balanced meals for students each day.
• Adapt menus to meet special dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances.
• Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised kitchen in line with food safety regulations.
• Provide on‑site kitchen coverage at any of the listed ELC sites as required.
• Collaborate with centre staff and the Y Canberra Region team to support student health and wellbeing.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence (mandatory).
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (mandatory).
• Foundations of Child Safety Training or willingness to obtain it.
• Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) check or willingness to obtain.
• Passion for nutrition and creating wholesome meals for children.
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team‑focused attitude.
• Experience preparing meals for children, including managing dietary needs.
• Experience in an early childhood or school setting is an advantage but not essential.
