Financial Controller – Build Finance Function for Fast‑Scaling Insurtech

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Financial Controller to build and lead the finance function of a newly acquired, fast‑scaling insurance business in Sydney. The role will be hired by Cove, the operating arm of Deck2 Capital, and will work closely with the founding team to ensure the venture exceeds expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement statutory and management reporting frameworks.
• Establish month‑end close, financial controls and audit‑ready processes.
• Automate finance workflows using modern tooling and AI‑driven solutions.
• Develop and maintain a robust data‑retrieval system to support reporting (RAG).
• Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights for strategic decisions.
• Scale the finance team as the business grows.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification with proven controllership experience.
• Hands‑on experience in statutory reporting, month‑end close, controls and audit.
• Comfort working in a regulated environment, preferably insurance or financial services.
• Builder’s mindset – comfortable with ambiguity and creating processes from scratch.

• AI agent integration for multi‑step financial tasks.
• Retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) tool development.
• Prompt and context engineering for production‑grade model outputs.
• Financial reporting, statutory reporting, month‑end close, audit readiness.
