About the role
HARLI + HARPA is looking for a Financial Accountant to join its finance team in Hawthorn East, Victoria. The role is central to maintaining accurate financial records, preparing statements and supporting strategic decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Execute month‑end close activities including journals, accruals, pre‑payments, fixed assets, lease accounting, balance‑sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Prepare monthly financial reports – profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow and supporting analysis for management review.
- Assist in the preparation of half‑year and full‑year financial statements in line with Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure consistent application of accounting policies.
- Support external audit by preparing workpapers, responding to queries and resolving technical accounting matters.
- Monitor and strengthen internal controls, including cash and operating expenditure processes for stores.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and ad‑hoc analysis as required by finance leadership.
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, automate reconciliations and improve month‑end efficiency.
- Partner with retail operations to investigate results, explain key movements and enhance financial insights.
Required profile
- CA or CPA qualification, or equivalent professional experience, currently completing professional studies.
- At least five years of experience in financial accounting, audit, corporate reporting or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS reporting requirements.
- Experience in a listed company, retail, FMCG, multi‑site or high‑volume transaction environment is highly regarded.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non‑finance stakeholders.
Required skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large data sets.
