Experienced Engineer – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Experienced Engineer – Roads & Highways to lead design and delivery of transport infrastructure projects across Queensland. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, applying civil engineering expertise to small‑to‑medium scale road and highway projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce high‑quality analysis and design deliverables that comply with Australian Standards and client requirements.
• Manage technical tasks across multiple projects, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals and documentation for small to medium projects.
• Monitor project scope, risk and use business systems to track progress.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in roads and highways design.
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and specifications.
• Proven project management and organisational abilities.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information.
