Engineer II – Modelling and Simulation

About the role

Shield AI is seeking an Engineer II to lead the development and integration of high‑performance simulation capabilities that support its Hivemind Mission Autonomy programs in Australia. You will design, implement, and maintain real‑time and faster‑than‑real‑time simulation environments used by autonomy, perception, and systems engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and evolve distributed, real‑time simulation systems across virtual, constructive, and live environments.
• Develop high‑performance C++ software for modelling, integration workflows, and system interoperability, including legacy standards.
• Implement real‑time, multi‑agent, high‑fidelity simulation software and integrate defence frameworks such as AFSIM or NGTS.
• Deliver containerised simulation deployments using Docker and Kubernetes for development, CI, testing, and operations.
• Provide technical leadership to cross‑functional teams of 5+ contributors and align simulation with autonomy algorithms and hardware interfaces.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, systems integration, and delivering reliable software in fast‑paced environments.
• Proven ability to lead teams delivering complex engineering projects.
• Hands‑on experience with real‑time, distributed simulation or HWIL/SWIL environments.
• Eligibility to obtain an Australian NV1 security clearance.
