Drainage Maintenance Officer

About the role

The Drainage Maintenance Officer will join Hume City Council’s Assets team in Coolaroo, supporting the upkeep and improvement of the local drainage network. This permanent, full‑time position focuses on ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently and in line with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct drainage inspections to identify problems and determine appropriate remedial actions.
• Arrange cleaning, CCTV inspections and other investigations as needed.
• Provide feedback to residents and external agencies when issues involve private property or other jurisdictions.
• Compile work details, confirm measurements on site and set priorities for repairs.
• Issue work orders and documentation to approved contractors.
• Supervise contractors to ensure safe repair of pit lids and compliance with the Council’s Road Management Plan.
• Prepare detailed reports on maintenance activities, system conditions and improvement recommendations.
• Collaborate with other departments to coordinate projects and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
• Assist in developing preventive maintenance programmes for drainage infrastructure.

Required profile

• Experience in road and drainage construction or maintenance works.
• Knowledge of the Road Management Act 2004 and local environmental regulations.
• Ability to interpret technical standards and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse community interactions.
• Proficiency in clerical and administrative procedures.
