About the role

The Strategic Communications team is looking for a senior leader to shape the story of a growing Queensland and drive the department’s reputation across government and industry. You will oversee high‑impact communications strategies and manage a busy media function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team delivering strategic communications plans for a complex portfolio of government initiatives.
• Provide strategic advice to senior executives including the Executive Director, Deputy Directors General and the Executive Leadership Team.
• Oversee the media function and manage high‑volume interactions with key stakeholders.
• Assess content, media and communication opportunities to strengthen the department’s brand and reputation.
• Build and maintain relationships with ministerial media advisors, senior departmental communication officers and industry representatives.
• Foster a high‑performing culture where staff deliver insight‑based, impactful work.
• Facilitate collaboration across the communications team to achieve strategic outcomes.
• Identify initiatives that support a cohesive branch and positive team environment.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in strategic communications within the public sector.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives and influence decision‑making.
• Experience managing media functions and high‑volume stakeholder interactions.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with government and industry partners.
• Track record of creating a collaborative, high‑performance team culture.
