Director, Research Services

About the role

The Australian National University seeks a senior leader to direct its Research Services function. Reporting to the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Research and Innovation), the Director will shape end‑to‑end research administration across funding, contracts, systems, ethics, integrity and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all research services administration.
• Align policies, procedures and operational functions with the university’s research and innovation strategy.
• Collaborate with College Deans, Research School Directors, Associate Deans (Research) and Research Managers to set direction and ensure accountability.
• Advise senior university executives on emerging opportunities, risks and policy changes affecting the research landscape.
• Lead transformation initiatives to improve research performance and external partnerships.
• Foster a high‑performing, inclusive team that earns confidence across the university.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in complex, research‑intensive environments (higher education, government or similar).
• Proven track record of leading organisational transformation and delivering strategic outcomes.
• Strong analytical, conceptual and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and high‑performance team leadership.
