Director of People & Culture

About the role

The Hoxton is launching its first Australian hotel in Melbourne and needs a senior HR leader to build the People & Culture function from the ground up. You will partner with the business to create a vibrant, compliant, and people‑focused workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement HR policies, contracts, systems and the full employee experience for a new hotel.
• Lead a high‑volume pre‑opening recruitment campaign to attract top hospitality talent.
• Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, relevant awards, enterprise agreements and Victorian long‑service leave.
• Embed The Hoxton values, drive talent development, oversee OH&S and wellbeing, and lead community initiatives.

Required profile

• Senior generalist HR experience in hospitality with the credibility to advise senior leadership.
• Proven ability to recruit at volume against a fixed opening date; hotel pre‑opening experience is a strong plus.
• Current, practical knowledge of Australian employment law and award interpretation – non‑negotiable.
• Confident handling of employee relations, performance management and Fair Work matters.
