Director - HR Operations

About the role

The Queensland Department of Education is seeking a strategic HR leader to head the North Queensland Regional HR team. In this senior position you will provide high‑quality, contemporary HR business partnering across a diverse regional schooling context, delivering practical, consistent, school‑centred advice and support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a regional HR team to deliver trusted advice, manage workforce risks and support people practices including workforce planning, performance, conduct, health, safety and wellbeing.
• Partner with school, regional and central office leaders to ensure HR services are responsive to local needs and aligned with system priorities.
• Develop and implement integrated HR strategies and initiatives that promote compliance, risk balance and superior performance.
• Act as the conduit between HR and business partners, ensuring organisational needs are met.
• Engage with external stakeholders such as professional associations and unions to stay abreast of best practice and build strategic alliances.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leadership experience, preferably in an education or public‑sector environment.
• Strong ability to navigate complex situations, build relationships and exercise sound judgement.
• Demonstrated capability to lead high‑performing, safe and inclusive workforces.
