Director, First Nations Programs – Inclusion & Media Diversity

About the role

The Consumer Safeguards, Media and Connectivity Division is seeking a senior leader to head the First Nations Programs team. This role drives policy, program delivery and stakeholder collaboration to achieve digital inclusion for First Nations Australians and support the Closing the Gap outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation and delivery of First Nations digital inclusion policies and programmes, including $20 million community Wi‑Fi, data collection, and a Digital Support Hub.
• Provide strategic leadership across the branch, supporting other sections and the First Nations Digital Inclusion Advisory Group.
• Conduct research and analysis on priority issues affecting First Nations people and produce high‑level briefing materials.
• Engage with government agencies, industry, and First Nations communities to coordinate initiatives and maximise outcomes.
• Prepare formal advice for senior executives and government, including Cabinet submissions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading policy reform and large‑scale programme delivery for socio‑economic outcomes.
• Proven high‑level negotiation and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical capacity for reporting and governance, respecting Indigenous data sovereignty.
• Excellent written and oral communication, with a track record of influencing senior leaders.
• Demonstrated people‑leadership ability to shape culture, develop staff and manage tight deadlines.
