About the role
The Department of Environment and Science is seeking an experienced Director to lead its Environmental Regulatory team within the Energy, Extractive and Southwest Compliance Branch. You will guide strategic decisions affecting petroleum, gas extraction, quarries, power stations and chemical manufacturing across Queensland.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team to make environmental decisions on high‑impact industries.
- Collaborate with industry, government agencies and community groups to protect the environment.
- Shape and implement regulatory approaches that promote sustainable development and reduce environmental risk.
- Drive business performance and reform in a complex regulatory environment.
- Provide strategic oversight for environmental management services, programs and projects.
Required profile
- Proven senior leadership experience in a regulatory or environmental context.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability with agility to adapt to rapid change.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to influence in contested environments.
- Deep understanding of contemporary environmental and regulatory trends.
- Ability to motivate staff and lead through organisational change.
