Director - Corporate M&A

About the role

A leading global advisory firm is seeking a Director to join its established Corporate M&A practice, equivalent to a Special Counsel in a traditional law firm. The opportunity suits someone who enjoys sophisticated transactional work but wants a different long-term career path than private practice. Bluefin has an established relationship with the firm, having placed a Director in its Property Transactions team and a Senior Associate in M&A.

Key responsibilities

• Advise founders, high-net-worth individuals, family groups and trusts on business sales, including transactions with complex ownership and group structures
• Act for private equity funds on acquisitions and investments
• Advise multinational organisations on large M&A transactions and complex corporate reorganisations
• Work closely with tax, deals and other specialists across the business, giving a broader, end-to-end advisory offering
• Run transactions independently and build direct client relationships

The practice is about 90% private M&A, with deals typically ranging from $20 million to $100 million and exposure to larger ones. Public M&A, financial services licensing and private equity fund formation are also part of the work.

Required profile

• Experienced Senior Associate, Special Counsel or lawyer at Director-equivalent level with a strong background in Corporate M&A
• Ability to run transactions independently and build client relationships
• Working parents are mentioned as current staff, and part-time arrangements are considered
