DevOps Engineer – Cloud & Kubernetes (Melbourne)

About the role

Habitat Energy is seeking a hands‑on DevOps Engineer to join its Melbourne tech team. You will work directly with the Head of Software (Australia) and the international DevOps Lead, driving the migration of Australian services from AWS ECS to Kubernetes (EKS) while contributing to the global platform.

Key responsibilities

• Manage cloud infrastructure across Australian and international regions.
• Lead the migration from AWS ECS to Kubernetes (EKS), including tool selection and architectural standards.
• Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Configure secure networking, VPNs (IPSec, Wireguard) and VPC security for remote battery sites.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD to accelerate software and data‑science deliveries.
• Collaborate with software and data‑science teams to optimise infrastructure cost and performance.

Required profile

• A "builder" mindset – enjoys digging into code and solving infrastructure problems.
• Pragmatic approach to technology selection, favouring open‑source solutions.
• Willingness to participate in a follow‑the‑sun on‑call rotation.

Required skills

• Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, Docker.
• Experience with AWS ECS (bonus).
• Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
• Networking knowledge: VPN (IPSec, Wireguard) and VPC security.
• AWS services: EC2, RDS, S3.
• CI/CD tools: GitHub Actions, ArgoCD.
