Deckhand – Seasonal Position

About the role

Join Rottnest Express for a summer season as a Deckhand, supporting the on‑water team that transports guests, luggage and freight to and from Rottnest Island. You will help deliver high‑quality experiences while ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and memorable experiences to guests onboard.
• Serve coffee, food and alcoholic beverages from the kiosk area.
• Support vessel operations onshore, including jetty setup, guest queue management and berthing/departure procedures.
• Handle cargo operations: organise, load and unload luggage crates and other freight.
• Assist with the coordination and availability of the bike fleet.
• Help guests move safely around the vessel.
• Manage berthing lines and work closely with the Vessel Master to ensure smooth berthing.
• Perform additional vessel‑related tasks while following safety procedures outlined in the vessel SMS.
• Carry out daily cleaning and housekeeping to maintain a welcoming environment.

Required profile

• Enjoy working on the water and thrive in a team‑oriented, customer‑focused environment.
• Physically capable of manual handling and outdoor work.
• Committed to safety and attentive to procedural guidelines.
