Data Engineer

About the role

Safewill is building a digital ecosystem for estate planning in Australia and needs a Data Engineer to expand data usage across the organisation. You will work alongside a Senior Data Engineer to improve an existing platform, delivering reliable, secure and scalable data solutions for analytics, AI tools and product features.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and models for analytics, AI tools and product features.
• Activate data through embedded products, enterprise integrations, reverse‑ETL and operational workflows.
• Develop secure outbound data integrations, including partner APIs, cloud storage and file delivery.
• Govern integrations that connect AI agents with internal tools and data.
• Improve data quality, testing, observability and documentation across owned systems.
• Optimise workloads for performance, reliability and cost while addressing technical debt.
• Implement governance controls for access management, classification, lineage, cataloguing and data contracts.
• Collaborate with technical and non‑technical teams to translate business requirements into secure technical solutions.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience as a Data Engineer with a track record of taking ownership of data features from design to production.
• Ability to write clean, tested code, conduct peer reviews and follow structured development cycles.
• Strong collaboration skills to work with product, engineering, design, legal and enterprise partners.
• Proactive attitude towards incident response, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.
