Data Center Energy Lead – Australia

About the role

Anthropic’s Infrastructure team is looking for a Data Center Energy Lead based in Sydney, Australia. The role will secure power capacity and accelerate energy delivery for the company’s rapidly expanding AI compute footprint across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop innovative energy deployment models (grid‑connected, behind‑the‑meter, etc.) to achieve the fastest timelines to energisation while maintaining social licence.
• Lead energy procurement and market strategy to secure multi‑hundred megawatt power capacity across the National Electricity Market (NEM), Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and Northern Territory Electricity Market (NTEM), structuring utility partnerships and commercial agreements.
• Own utility and regulatory stakeholder management across multiple Australian jurisdictions, building relationships with ISOs, transmission and distribution network service providers, and state regulators.
• Drive energy‑market and policy strategy, monitor National Electricity Rules and regulatory developments, and engage policymakers to address grid capacity challenges.
• Partner with engineering and delivery teams to translate market dynamics into actionable capacity‑acceleration plans aligned with aggressive project timelines.
• Gather market intelligence on regional power availability, transmission constraints and connection queues to inform site selection and deployment strategy.
• Structure innovative commercial frameworks such as PPAs, network‑use‑of‑system arrangements and behind‑the‑meter solutions to enable faster power delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in energy markets, power procurement and large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian electricity markets (NEM, WEM, NTEM) and related regulatory environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with utilities, regulators and other key stakeholders.
• Experience working closely with engineering and delivery teams to align energy strategies with project schedules.
• Ability to analyse market intelligence and develop strategic recommendations for site selection and capacity acceleration.
