Data Analyst - SharePoint and Power BI Reporting
HorizonOne · Canberra
Job description
About the role
A newly established Commonwealth regulator, which became an independent statutory agency last year, is looking for a Data Analyst to help its PMO improve its reporting and data maturity. The PMO has built the first version of a Microsoft-based reporting system and now needs someone to deliver the next iteration, with SharePoint and Power BI central to better-informed executive decisions. The initial scope is SharePoint-heavy before moving into Power BI, with roughly an even split over the contract.
Key responsibilities
- Work with branches to develop and enhance SharePoint sites, pages, libraries, forms and workflows
- Implement and maintain permissions, access controls and information management practices
- Enhance and maintain the core Power BI reporting tool, including reports, dashboards and datasets
- Integrate data from approved sources and ensure reporting products are accurate, reliable and documented
- Build forms, workflows and automation in Power Apps and Power Automate where needed
- Deliver training, user support, user guides and technical documentation
- Support testing, deployment and handover so departmental staff can run the solutions after the contract ends
Required profile
- Data analyst with experience using Power BI and SharePoint who has improved how a team uses its data, ideally in a regulator, defence or APS environment
- Ability to turn business requirements into practical solutions, then document, train and hand over well
- Australian citizenship and NV1 required; highly suitable candidates with a Baseline may be considered
Required skills
- Hands-on experience developing SharePoint Online sites and Power BI reports and dashboards in Microsoft 365
- Power Apps and Power Automate
- Desirable: experience on the Defence Protected Network or within a major Defence program
What we offer
- Initial six-month labour hire contract with a three-month extension option
- Expected start date of November 2026
- Canberra-based role, with up to two days working from home per week once established
