About the role
As a Cyber Security Analyst at Macquarie University, you will be at the forefront of protecting a dynamic university environment. You will detect, investigate and outsmart cyber threats, ensuring the safety of systems, data and people across education, research and health services.
Key responsibilities
- Manage first and second‑level cyber security incident response end‑to‑end, investigate root causes and provide resolutions.
- Support and conduct AI‑enhanced penetration testing, analyse reports and audit findings.
- Develop and continuously improve detect‑and‑respond capabilities, including SIEM content, EDR playbooks, identity protection policies and mail‑hygiene controls.
- Deliver threat‑informed engineering changes such as telemetry onboarding, correlation logic and attack‑path reduction.
- Coordinate vulnerability and exposure reduction programmes for critical services and produce executive risk dashboards.
- Act as a technical escalation point and mentor for junior team members, running simulations and reviewing complex changes.
- Partner with IT owners to embed secure configuration baselines across endpoints, identity, email, cloud and on‑premises platforms.
- Produce post‑incident reports with causal analysis and help maintain SOPs and playbooks.
Required profile
- Proven experience in cyber security incident response and penetration testing.
- Familiarity with SIEM, EDR, telemetry and correlation logic.
- Knowledge of the Essential Eight framework and secure configuration baselines.
- Ability to mentor junior staff and communicate technical findings to senior stakeholders.
