Customer Connections Senior Operator

About the role

Coliban Water is expanding its frontline operations and is looking for an experienced, people-focused Senior Operator to run and coordinate the operation, maintenance, repair and renewal of water, sewer and recycled water service connection assets. The role gives advanced technical expertise, supports the Team Leader with day-to-day coordination and mentors operators and contractors so that work is done safely, efficiently and to standard. It sits in the Connections Team, which maintains over 82,000 water connections, over 75,000 sewer connections and about 1,100 recycled water connections for more than 181,000 customers.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair and replace water, sewer and recycled water service connection assets
• Lead field-based work for customer service faults, asset maintenance and connection works
• Respond to emergency and planned works to restore services within agreed service levels
• Operate plant, equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently
• Complete work orders, inspections and asset records accurately and on time
• Take part in standby and after-hours rosters
• Give technical guidance to Customer Connections Operators and help the Team Leader plan and allocate work
• Mentor and train less experienced team members and contribute to safe work procedures
• Identify asset defects and risks, and liaise with customers, contractors, plumbers and regulators

Required profile

• Strong technical capability in utility operations and maintenance
• Proven commitment to safety and risk management
• Ability to mentor and support team members
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Experience in a water authority, local government or regulated utility environment is desirable
• Certificate III in Water Industry Operations, Civil Construction, Plumbing or a related field, or willingness to obtain it
• Desirable: experience in water, sewer, civil construction or plumbing operations, field activity coordination, and plant/equipment licences such as an MR Truck Licence
