Customer Connections Operator

About the role

Coliban Water is expanding its frontline operations and is seeking a safety-focused Operator to run, maintain, repair and renew water, sewer and recycled water service connection assets. The role is hands-on, field-based and contributes to maintenance, customer connection works, fault response and emergency repairs across the service region. It sits in the Connections Team, which manages over 82,000 water connections, over 75,000 sewer connections and about 1,100 recycled water connections.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair and renew water, sewer and recycled water service connections, and assist with new connections, disconnections, meter installations and asset renewal.
• Respond to planned and reactive maintenance, including faults, leaks, blockages and damaged assets.
• Operate and maintain valves, hydrants, meters and associated infrastructure, and safely operate plant such as hydro trucks, excavators and high-pressure jetting equipment.
• Inspect assets for defects and deterioration, carry out preventative and reactive maintenance, perform minor civil works and report defects.
• Complete work orders and record activities in Coliban Water systems, and keep plant, tools and equipment safe and serviceable.
• Deliver courteous customer service, liaise with customers, plumbers and contractors, and communicate planned interruptions.
• Follow safe work procedures, carry out site risk assessments, report hazards and take part in emergency response and after-hours callouts.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in manual or technical work.
• Ability to work safely in a field-based environment and a strong commitment to health, safety and customer service.
• Willingness to learn about water, sewer and recycled water networks.
• Desirable: experience in a manual, technical or operational role, and a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations, Civil Construction, Plumbing or a related field, or willingness to obtain one.
• A valid Australian workers' rights, a current Victorian driver's licence (medium rigid preferred), and completion of core training requirements; police check, working with children check, pre-employment medicals or psychometric testing may be required.
