CSR Engineer – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking experienced Combined Services Route (CSR) Engineers to join its rail team in Australia. The role involves delivering high‑quality CSR designs for multidisciplinary rail projects across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, supporting the creation of sustainable and regenerative infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead CSR design delivery ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, AMB guidelines and client requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, clients and stakeholders to produce coordinated, high‑quality designs.
• Apply project management principles to meet project milestones and deliverables on time.
• Develop 3D BIM models of utility routes using industry‑standard software.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in rail utility engineering and design within an engineering consultancy.
• Proven track record of delivering major CSR designs on rail infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication skills to lead CSR packages and work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of Safety in Design and construction, maintenance and operations requirements.

Required skills

• 3D BIM modelling of CSR routes
• Proficiency with 12D, Civil 3D and Navisworks
• Understanding of AMB standards and Australian rail utility design guidelines
