CSR Engineer – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC, part of Surbana Jurong, is seeking experienced Combined Services Route (CSR) Engineers to join its rail team in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. The role involves leading the design and delivery of CSR routes across multidisciplinary rail projects in Australia and New Zealand, ensuring compliance with technical standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate CSR designs that meet Australian Standards, AMB guidelines and client specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, clients and stakeholders to produce high-quality, integrated designs.
• Apply project management principles to deliver design packages on schedule.
• Produce 3D BIM models of utility routes using industry-standard software.
• Ensure safety-in-design considerations are incorporated throughout the design process.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in rail utility engineering or a related engineering design consultancy.
• Proven track record delivering major CSR designs on rail infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead a CSR package within a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with construction, maintenance and operations requirements for rail utilities.

Required skills

• 3D BIM modelling of CSR routes.
• Proficiency with 12D, Civil 3D and Navisworks.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards, AMB guidelines and Safety-in-Design.
