Counsellor - Carer Gateway

About the role

North and West Remote Health (NWRH) is recruiting a Counsellor for its Carer Gateway team, based in Townsville. The counsellor provides accessible, evidence-based counselling to people experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and low mood linked to their caring role, working alongside allied health and community professionals. The role combines clinical work with community outreach across the Northwest and Lower Gulf regions, and flexible arrangements such as part-time hours or shorter-term engagement can be discussed.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver evidence-based counselling using CBT, Rogers or similar approaches.
• Complete needs assessments, brief interventions and single-session therapy.
• Provide psychoeducation, care planning and supported referrals.
• Maintain accurate case notes, outcome measures and reports.
• Deliver outreach counselling across regional and remote communities.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification in counselling, psychotherapy or social work.
• Current accreditation with ACA, PACFA, AASW or equivalent.
• Experience delivering evidence-based counselling interventions and supporting people with stress, anxiety or low mood.
• Current unrestricted Australian C class driver's licence.

• Salary from $82,858 to $105,893 plus superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
