Communication Technician – Mining Operations

About the role

Reporting to the Team Lead, Communications, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the communications infrastructure that supports Newmont Tanami’s underground and surface mining operations. This role ensures reliable, safe, and efficient production outcomes across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and troubleshoot underground and surface communications systems.
• Carry out communications infrastructure maintenance and installation activities.
• Support commissioning and start‑up of new communication technologies and equipment.
• Monitor system performance and resolve complex technical issues.
• Implement software, hardware and interface updates in line with site standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors, vendors and stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members and contractors.
• Assist in developing and maintaining operational procedures and standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance system reliability and performance.

Required profile

• Trade qualification in Communications, Electronics or Electronic Systems.
• Open Cabler Registration with Structured, Optical Fibre and Coaxial endorsements.
• Experience installing, maintaining and fault‑finding mining communications systems.
• Knowledge of VHF & UHF radio systems, Leaky Feeder networks and fibre optics.
