Civil Underground Structures Engineer

About the role

Aurecon’s NSW & ACT Underground Structures team is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with 5‑7 years of experience to design and deliver underground infrastructure such as tunnels, retaining walls and deep shafts. The role blends geotechnical and structural engineering, offering career progression in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and document underground structures including retaining walls, deep shafts, cut‑and‑cover tunnels and reinforced soil/rock constructions.
• Perform soil‑structure interaction and other geotechnical analyses to verify design integrity.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and both internal and external clients to ensure sustainable and technically excellent outcomes.
• Support project delivery across the NSW & ACT market, contributing to a growing pipeline of transport and infrastructure projects.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of experience in civil or structural engineering with a focus on underground structures.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for AGSVA security clearance.
• Proven experience designing retaining structures, deep shafts, cut‑and‑cover tunnels and reinforced soil/rock works.
• Experience working in a consultancy environment and interacting with clients, preferably in the transport sector.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Australian Standards and TfNSW specifications.
• Proficiency with structural and/or geotechnical analysis software for design verification.
• Ability to conduct soil‑structure interaction analysis.
• Familiarity with transport sector engineering practices.
