Chief Executive Officer - Department of Education and Training

About the role

The Northern Territory Government wants every child and adult to have access to high-quality education, from early years through to adulthood. The Department of Education and Training (DET) delivers education and training across urban, regional and remote communities, and is looking for an accomplished executive to lead it as Chief Executive Officer. Reporting to the Minister for Education, the CEO sets and implements the long-term strategic direction of the Territory's education and training system.

Key responsibilities

• Translate the Territory Government's education priorities into action and set the long-term strategy for education and training
• Provide strategic policy and planning advice and assess educational needs and performance across early childhood, schooling and vocational education and training
• Drive continuous improvement in the quality, access and safety of education delivery, especially in regional and remote communities
• Build and lead a large, dispersed workforce and embed strong governance
• Harness innovation and maintain trusted partnerships with industry, government and community

Required profile

• Accomplished senior executive with a proven track record leading complex organisations in education or large-scale service delivery
• Strong understanding of the challenges of delivering services across regional and remote settings
• Operational, financial and workforce management capability, including leading large workforces
• Deep understanding of governance and ability to drive organisational and cultural change
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, able to advise government and build trusted relationships with educators, school leaders and communities
• Resilience, sound judgement and emotional intelligence to lead through complexity and change
