Casualty Claims Specialist

About the role

Swiss Re's Corporate Solutions is looking for a Casualty Claims Specialist to join its ANZ Claims team in Sydney. The role suits a lawyer with 3-4 years' post-qualification experience in insurance, litigation or defendant practice, or a claims professional with 5 years' experience handling casualty claims. You will manage a portfolio of casualty claims from notification to resolution, working with brokers, insureds, underwriters, external lawyers and experts, and contribute to portfolio insights and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of Financial & Professional Lines claims independently, from first notification to resolution
• Assess coverage, liability, quantum and reserving requirements, and develop tailored claim strategies
• Monitor claim progress, keep accurate records and report on claims
• Analyse policy wording, coverage issues, legal liability and litigation risks, and negotiate settlements
• Pursue subrogation where appropriate and identify recovery opportunities
• Build relationships with brokers, insureds, lawyers and underwriting colleagues, and collaborate with risk, auditors, actuaries, legal and compliance teams
• Use data, analytics and AI-enabled tools to support claim decisions and portfolio insights, validating AI outputs

Required profile

• Law degree with 3+ years PQE, or 3-5 years' experience managing casualty, liability or general insurance claims
• Ability to interpret complex policy wording and legal issues, and sound understanding of negligence, liability and damages
• Negotiation, stakeholder management and communication skills, and ability to work autonomously
• Desirable: experience with litigated matters, reserving and portfolio analysis, and AI literacy
